How to disable Android battery restrictions

Why Disable Battery Restrictions?

On many Android phones, Battery Saver mode kicks in automatically when battery level drops or based on default settings. This can stop ClickTime from tracking mileage and location in the background. To keep ClickTime working seamlessly, you should disable automatic Battery Saver or exempt ClickTime from these optimizations. To ensure ClickTime continues to run properly (even when your phone tries to conserve power), you should turn off automatic battery saver or exempt ClickTime from these optimizations. The guide below explains how to do this for various phone brands.

Quick Steps (Android 12+Phones)

No matter which Android phone you have, the goal is to turn off battery optimization for the ClickTime app. On Android 12 and newer, you can do this directly via the app’s settings:

  1. Open App Info for ClickTime or go via Settings → Apps → ClickTime.

  2. Tap the Battery setting: In the ClickTime App Info screen or search for Battery and select it.

  3. Select “Unrestricted” or Don’t Optimize: Change the battery usage setting for ClickTime to Unrestricted (sometimes labeled Don’t optimize). This allows ClickTime to run in the background without any restrictions. If there is a toggle for “Allow background activity” or “Allow app to run in background,” make sure that is enabled.

  4. Enable Allow Background Activity if available.

  5. Optional: In Battery Saver settings (if scheduled), turn off automatic activation or exempt ClickTime .

This ensures the app runs without interruption. After these steps, ClickTime is no longer limited by power-saving features.

Tip: If your phone has a setting to automatically turn on Battery Saver at a certain percentage, set it to Off or No schedule to prevent it from coming on by itself.

Samsung

Samsung devices use One UI, which sometimes has battery optimization settings in different places depending on the model and Android version. Below are two methods you can use to disable power-saving limitations for ClickTime on Samsung phones. You can try Method 1 first, and if the options are different on your phone, use Method 2.

  1. Open SettingsApps → locate ClickTime .

  2. Tap Battery > Optimize battery usage.

  3. Change filter to All apps, then disable optimization for ClickTime .

  4. Tap the dropdown that says “Not optimized”, and change it to “All apps”. Now you’ll see the full list of apps.

  5. Scroll down and find ClickTime in the list. Tap it and select Don’t optimize. (On some Samsung models, this may appear as a toggle switch — in that case, switch it off for ClickTime so it is not optimized.)

  6. If you see a Done button or confirmation, tap Done to save the change. ClickTime should now be set to not optimize (unrestricted) on battery usage.

Method 2: Using Battery Settings

1. Open Settings → Battery (or Battery & performance).

2. Tap Battery Saver or Power Saving Mode

3. Disable any automatic schedule (set to Off or No schedule).

4. If available, exempt the **ClickTime ** app from activation.

This prevents unexpected shutdown of tracking when battery gets low.

5. Back out of the menus. ClickTime is now excluded from Samsung’s battery optimization.

Disabling automatic Battery Saver or exempting ClickTime ensures uninterrupted GPS and mileage tracking even during long shifts when battery levels drop .

Google Pixel

Google Pixel (stock Android) phones handle this through app settings as well:

  1. Open Settings and tap Apps (on older Pixels this might be Apps & notifications).

  2. If you see See all apps, tap that and scroll to find ClickTime , then select it. (You can also use the search icon in the Settings to type “ClickTime ” and go directly to the app info.)

  3. In the ClickTime App Info screen, tap Battery. You will see options for managing battery usage for the app.

  4. Select Unrestricted for ClickTime . (On older Android versions, you might instead toggle Allow background activity to On, or choose Don’t optimize from a battery optimization menu. In any case, ensure ClickTime is not restricted.)

  5. Go back to the main Battery settings. Check the Battery Saver section – if you have Battery Saver scheduled (e.g. to turn on at 5% or 15%), consider setting it to No schedule or None. This way, Battery Saver won’t kick in automatically and pause your location tracking.

After these changes, your Pixel will allow ClickTime to run at all times. Pixel’s Adaptive Battery feature (found under Battery > Adaptive preferences) can usually be left on, but if you suspect it’s limiting ClickTime , you could turn it off. In most cases, marking the app as Unrestricted is enough.
